I am delighted that a poem of mine called Body Work was published in an anthology of poetry called The Body Anthology. Thanks to Charlotte Cosgrave for choosing the poem. The quality of the authors is quite illustrious so I am even more delighted to be in their company. Copies of the anthology can be ordered on Amazon at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Body-anthology-poetry-Charlotte-Cosgrove/dp/B0F6BFHPN1
Here is the poem below:
Body Work
1
on the bus
I now to take up
more than one seat
2
passing the new mirror
I glimpse my belly
hanging over the belt
3
adult magazine
the chiseled abs
budge from the page
4
on the beach
he strips off without a towel
as I shrink behind one
5
stepping on the scales
my fear is heavier
than this weight
6
evening jog
this routine is as hard
as the pavement
7
getting over a bad day
with this ice cream tub
guilt can’t be licked away
8
a new diet
I try to find purpose
for my rumbling stomach
9
cousin’s wedding day
my only suit
is tighter this year
10
in the zoo with him
if I get bigger than that hippo
will you stay with me?
11
another new diet
of just eggs and ham
monotonous breakfast
12
I spill out my torment
in the counsellors chair
storm outside clears
13
14
over the months
the needle moves up or down
taking these steps
